Under 2021 anmäldes cirka 1,47 miljoner brott, vilket var en minskning med 84 400 brott (−5%), jämfört med året innan. De kategorier som minskade mest var stöld- och tillgreppsbrott samt bedrägeribrott. Den kategori av anmälda brott som ökade mest i antal under 2021 var brott mot person (+2 %).

Samtliga anmälda brott
- Under 2021 anmäldes cirka 1,47 miljoner brott, vilket var en minskning med 84 400 brott (−5%), jämfört med året innan.
- De kategorier som minskade mest var stöld- och tillgreppsbrott samt bedrägeribrott. Inom stöld- och tillgreppsbrott minskade cykelstöld och inbrottsstöld i industri, verkstad, byggplats, lager, garage, hamnområde, kontor med mera mest. Den största minskningen inom bedrägeribrott gällde kortbedrägerier och identitetsbedrägerier.
- Trots att många brottstyper minskade så var det några som ökade. Den kategori av anmälda brott som ökade mest i antal under 2021 var brott mot person (+2 %). Den största ökningen inom brott mot person gällde brottstyperna ofredande mot personer över 18 år, samt dataintrång.
Brotten som har störst påverkan på minskningen
De anmälda brotten minskade med 84 400 brott (−5%) under 2021, jämfört med året innan. Här är de brottstyper som har haft störst påverkan på minskningen. Preliminär statistik.

Brott mot person
Under 2021 anmäldes cirka 301 000 brott mot person, vilket var en ökning med 5 720 brott (+2 %) jämfört med 2020.
Misshandel
- De anmälda misshandelsbrotten uppgick till 81 600, vilket var en minskning med 917 brott (−1 %) jämfört med 2020.
- Misshandelsbrott mot kvinnor (18 år eller äldre) uppgick till 28 900 anmälda brott (±0 %).
- Misshandelsbrott mot män (18 år eller äldre) minskade till 28 700 anmälda brott (−2 %).
- Misshandelsbrott mot barn (0–17 år) minskade till 24 000 anmälda brott (−2 %).
- En majoritet (81 %) av de anmälda misshandelsbrotten mot kvinnor begicks av närstående och andra bekanta gärningspersoner, motsvarande andel mot män var 46 %. Av de anmälda misshandelsbrotten mot män utgjorde drygt hälften (55 %) misshandel av en obekant, samma andel för kvinnorna var 19 procent.
Våldtäkt
- Anmälda våldtäkter ökade under 2021 till 9 240 brott (+4 %) jämfört med 2020.
- Våldtäkter mot kvinnor (18 år eller äldre) ökade till 5 250 anmälda brott (+12 %).
- Våldtäkter mot män (18 år eller äldre) ökade till 279 anmälda brott (+9 %).
- Våldtäkter mot barn (0–17 år) minskade till 3 710 anmälda brott (−6 %).
- En tredjedel (33 %) av de anmälda våldtäktsbrotten mot kvinnor avsåg våldtäkter av närstående i en parrelation. Motsvarande andel för våldtäkt mot män var 15 procent.
Sexuellt ofredande
- Anmälda brott om sexuellt ofredande ökade under 2021 till 11 000 brott (+11 %), jämfört med 2020.
- Anmälda brott om sexuellt ofredande mot kvinnor (18 år eller äldre) ökade till 5 600 brott (+12 %).
- Anmälda brott om sexuellt ofredande mot män (18 år eller äldre) ökade till 584 brott (+11 %).
- Anmälda brott om sexuellt ofredande mot barn (0–17 år) ökade till 4 670 brott (+11 %).
Övriga brottskategorier
- År 2021 anmäldes cirka 23 000 rattfylleribrott, vilket var en minskning (−10 %) jämfört med 2020.
- Anmälda narkotikabrott uppgick till 118 000, en minskning (−5 %) jämfört med 2020.
- Av de anmälda narkotikabrotten utgjordes nästan hälften av innehav, som ökade (+3 %) jämfört med 2020. Anmälningar om eget bruk minskade (−11 %), och utgjorde 44 procent av de anmälda narkotikabrotten. Antalet brott om framställning minskade (−21 %) och överlåtelse av narkotika minskade (−5 %) jämfört med 2020.
Stöld- och tillgreppsbrott
- Under 2021 anmäldes 388 000 i kategorin stöld- och tillgreppsbrott, vilket var en minskning med 33 200 brott (−8 %) jämfört med 2020.
- De brottstyper inom kategorin som minskade mest, var cykelstöld (−16 %) samt inbrottsstöld i industri, verkstad, byggplats, lager, garage, hamnområde, kontor med mera mest (−20 %).
- Totalt anmäldes 12 500 bostadsinbrott under 2021, en minskning (−15 %) jämfört med 2020. Villainbrotten minskade till 6 530 brott (−22 %), medan inbrott i lägenhet minskade till 6 000 brott (−5 %).
- Från 2020 till 2021 minskade antalet personrån till 6 210 anmälda brott (−17 %).
- Anmälda rån mot vuxna (18 år eller äldre) minskade till 4 050 brott (−14 %).
- Anmälda rån mot barn (under 18 år) minskade till 1 620 brott (−26 %).
- Totalt begicks 672 av de anmälda personrånen 2021 med skjutvapen, vilket var en ökning (+3 %) jämfört med 2020. Merparten (83 %) av rånen med skjutvapen var mot vuxna (18 år eller äldre).

Bortfall i kommunstatistiken
Eftersom det i vissa fall saknas uppgift om brottsplats finns det ett bortfall i kommunstatistiken. När man gör jämförelser över tid är det viktigt att komma ihåg att bortfallet kan variera i storlek från år till år. Andelen brott som saknar uppgift om brottsplats varierar även i hög utsträckning beroende på brottstyp. Bedrägeribrott är den brottstyp som har i särklass störst andel bortfall.
Om statistiken
Detta är den preliminära statistiken över anmälda brott 2021. Statistiken omfattar alla händelser som anmälts och registrerats som brott hos Polismyndigheten, Åklagarmyndigheten, Ekobrottsmyndigheten och andra brottsutredande myndigheter under det föregående året. De anmälda brotten inkluderar även händelser som efter utredning visade sig inte vara brott.
Ändamålet med statistiken är att ge en bild av nivån och utvecklingen av de händelser som anmälts och registrerats som brott hos de brottsutredande myndigheterna under den redovisade perioden. Statistiken är deskriptiv och ger inga fördjupade förklaringar till nivåer eller de förändringar som skett över tid. Eftersom statistiken endast omfattar de brott som kommit till rättsväsendets kännedom, ger den inte heller en bild av det totala antalet begångna brott i samhället. För en mer heltäckande bild av den faktiska brottsligheten behöver även andra källor användas såsom brottsofferundersökningar, exempelvis Nationella trygghetsundersökningen (NTU), och självdeklarationsundersökningar.
Effekter av pandemin
Med anledning av pandemin har Brå sedan april 2020 genomfört återkommande uppföljningar av den preliminära månadsstatistiken över anmälda brott.
