Risk-reducing interventions is the Swedish entry for the European Crime Prevention Award 2022

The national method of the Swedish Police for behavioral changes in violent offenders has been chosen as the Swedish entry for best crime prevention effort.

Risk-reducing interventions (RRI) has been a national method of the Swedish Police since 2021. Now the method has been chosen as this year’s Swedish entry for the European Crime Prevention Award (ECPA). The method aims to reduce the motivation for threats and violence through the use of proactive interventions and talks with offenders, thereby also reducing repeated exposure to these offences for the victims. When the method was used in a pilot project, violence and threats could be stopped in 72 percent of the cases.
