Parents' concerns regarding gang crime
Data collection is currently underway for a survey about parents' concerns regarding gang crime. The survey has been sent out to parents of 15,000 children born between the years 2009–2015 who are registered in Stockholm, Gothenburg, or Malmö and who have been randomly selected from the Swedish Tax Agency's population register.
The questionnaire asks questions about, among other things, how safe one feels and whether one experiences problems in their residential area and whether, as a parent, one is worried about gang crime.
Did you receive an invitation to participate in the survey?

Invitation to participate in the survey
We at the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention (Brå) invite you to participate in a survey about parents' concerns regarding gang crime by answering a questionnaire.
You have been invited as a parent of one of the 15,000 children born between 2009–2015 who are registered in Stockholm, Gothenburg, or Malmö and who have been randomly selected from the Swedish Tax Agency's population register.
The questionnaire asks questions about, among other things, how safe you feel and whether you experience problems in your residential area. The questionnaire also includes questions about whether you, as a parent, are worried about gang crime. We would like you to answer these questions in relation to your child with a specific birth date which is stated in the questionnaire. More detailed information can be found on the first page of the questionnaire.
Participation in the survey is voluntary, but we hope you will take part as your answers are very important, regardless of whether you are worried about your child or not!

About the survey
The survey responses are used by the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention (Brå) to produce statistics for crime prevention purposes, used both by Brå and other users such as the Parliament, the Government, and municipalities.
Information about children and parents was collected from the Swedish Tax Agency's population register in two separate extractions. The first extraction contained a random sample of 15,000 children with information about their personal identity number, registered address, parents, and guardians.
For the parents who were also guardians of the children, a second extraction was made containing the parent's name, personal identity number, registered address, place/country of birth, and the personal identity numbers of all their children. The registered address was used to select the parent who was registered at the same address as the child, or to randomly select one parent if both were registered at the same address. The personal identity numbers of the parent's other children were used to check if children selected for the survey have siblings and if any of the siblings share a date of birth with the child, as the parent would then need additional information to identify which child is being referred to in the survey.
Age and legal gender for both children and parents are categorized by Brå based on the personal identity number.
