Statistics from surveys
The National Council for Crime Prevention is responsible for a number of surveys on exposure to crime, fear of crime.
Sweden’s Official Statistics (SOS) are statistics that are particularly important for describing Sweden. Official statistics contribute to the development of our society by being objective and relevant, which benefits citizens. Brå – The Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention has been tasked by the Government to be responsible for the official statistics within the judicial system. As a government agency responsible for statistics, we are responsible for ensuring that
- the statistics are objective;
- the statistics are documented; and
- the statistics are accompanied by a quality declaration.
Swedish Crime Survey
The main purpose of the Swedish Crime Survey (SCS) is to study trends in self-reported exposure to crime, fear of crime, confidence in the criminal justice system and crime victims' contact with the criminal justice system in the Swedish population (16-84 years). The survey also aims to describe differences among population groups, such as differences between men and women or among different age groups.
School Survey on Crime
The overall purpose of this survey is to describe trends over time in self-reported exposure to crime and participation in crime among students in year 9. Year 9 is the final year of compulsory education in Sweden, with students aged 15–16.
Politician’s Safety Survey
In the Politician’s Safety Survey, elected representatives in Sweden are asked to respond to questions concerning self-reported victimisation. This statistical report presents the overall results of the Politician’s Safety Survey (PTU) for the period 2012–2022.
