About the study
Sexual offences represent a form of crime that has particularly serious consequences for the personal and sexual integrity of those victimised. Research shows that children are particularly vulnerable to the negative effects of exposure to sex crime, not least because the offences occur at a time when the victims are in the process of developing their capacities for trust and intimacy, and also their sexuality. The consequences of sex offences can thus be even more extensive and serious for children than they are for adults.
