Gun violence

Up until a few years ago, Sweden was counted among the European countries with relatively low levels of homicide. However, the homicide rate has increased in Sweden, and is now higher than that of many other countries. The increase in Sweden is primarily linked to an increase in gun violence in the criminal milieu.

    This study examines gun violence trends in the criminal milieu since the mid-2000s, analysing how the criminal milieu has changed and what role these changes may have played in gun violence trends.

  • Persons suspected of offences with LGBTQI-related hate crimes

    This report supplements Brå’s hate crime statistics with a descriptive analysis of persons suspected of committing offences that has been reported to the police and where Brå have identified LGBTQI-related hate crime motives

  • Children and youth in criminal networks

    This report presents a study focused on the way children and youth become involved in criminal networks. The study examines the offences that these young people typically engage in and what opportunities they have to leave criminal networks.

CONFERENCE

The Stockholm Criminology Symposium

The Stockholm Criminology Symposium is an annual event which is organized by the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention (Brå) on behalf of the Swedish government. The Symposium has become a true meeting point for researchers, policy-makers and practitioners who want to learn from the latest research findings of importance for crime policy.

Brå is the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention – an agency under the auspices of the Ministry of Justice and a knowledge centre for the criminal justice system. The agency's mandate is to contribute to the development of knowledge within the criminal justice system and the criminal policy area, as well as to promote crime prevention work.
